Chat Online 21/05/2013's Session

Moderatrice mod : Good afternoon Dukanians! Today is the 21th of May. Welcome to our live chat! This one hour chat today will be hosted by Sevie. All questions are welcome. Enjoy the chat!
gerringong : If I was going to drink any form of alcohol would white spirits be better than wine i know it would be better to drink none but if I was to?
Moderatrice sevie : Welcome to our live chat Gerringong ! Needless to say you already know the answer. The best type of alcohol to have would be red wine. Remember that this will destroy your efforts and take you a very long time to recuperate from. You should not be having any alcohol until you move passed the slimming phases. I hope you have a great day!
lilburn58 : I have not lost any weight in about three weeks - very little since the attack phase. I think I'm sticking to the diet. I am desperately needing help. I am feeling very low about this.
Moderatrice sevie : Hi lilburn58, and welcome to our live chat! I hope this will not chew away at your motivation too much. If you are not constipated, I think we have to take a closer look at the food you are eating. Please send me a detailed e-mail containing what you have been eating and drinking these past 3 days including the quantities. Have a great day!
Mollie100 : I've been stuck at the same weight for 2 and a half weeks after losing 7 pounds in the first month. Any tips on kick starting weight loss again. I'm following the instructions.
Moderatrice sevie : I hope you are enjoying the live chat Mollie100! This is one of the most common symptoms in the Dukan diet. You are most likely constipated. We have a couple of remedies for this like make sure you drink about 2 litres of fluids per day. We recommend drinking really cold, almost icy water. Please increase your oat bran intake to 3 tablespoons per day. You could also try increasing your daily exercise. You can have up to 200 grams of baked rhubarb to help to ease your constipation. Our Dukan Diet Online Shop also sells a number of slimming aids including the Digestive Aid Fruit Squares which will help to ease constipation. You can also find shirataki noodles on our online shop that can help your bowel movement. If after having tried all of this, you are still constipated, I would advise you to go and see your local pharmacist so that he can provide you with the most appropriate laxative for you. Have a great rest of the day.
Nosova777 : 1) I'm used to drink more that 2 litres of water per day. Is that ok, or shoud I reduce the quantity of water? my kidneys are ok and healthy. 2) Should there be any interval between my meals at the Attack Phase (like 1-2-3 hours) or I get some food just as I get hunger?
Moderatrice sevie : Welcome to the chat Nosova777! The recommendation is 1.5-2l of liquids per day; however, we will not stop you from drinking if you are thirsty. While you can drink more than 2l of liquids per day if you are thirsty or live in a country that is very hot, know that this will have consequences such as possible water retention which will incur a lack of weight loss or even weight gain. You do not necessarily have to have any intervals, its really based on how frequently you eat. As long as you are eating Dukan friendly foods, eat away to make sure you do not go hungry.
aidaisabel : What to do during a trip. At least we will be in the same time zone for a while.
Moderatrice sevie : I am glad you could make it to the chat despite of the time difference Aidaisabel. First of all remember that when you are away, you can turn a PP day into a PV one as they are easier to do when you are away; while doing this keep in mind that they may slow your weight loss down because the original formula for weight loss is the alternation between PP+PV days. You should also try and get as much physical activity as possible; this would really depend on what you are going on a trip for, what is available to you and so on. Try your best to keep up with the diet and when you come back, just send us a message and fill out a report so that based on that information, we can see whether you need special instructions or if you can just follow your original daily instructions.
Mollie100 : Thanks. I'm not constipated but I'll try those recommendations anyway. Another question, with regard to the Dukan shop oatbran bars (which = 2 tolerated items), can I have this in addition to my daily gallette or is it an alternative?
Moderatrice sevie : Hi again Molie100! You can try this stuff, but no need for the pharmacist, nor the fruit squares then if you are not actually constipated; but there is nothing wrong with eating shirataki noodles for example. Lapses also will only worsen the case, I would advise you to take a look at your recipe book for alternatives to lapses. You should also remember that you can have up to 5 pieces of sugar free sweets per day. Since nothing replaces your daily dose of oat bran, you can have your galette+ your 2 tolerated items which in this case would be the Dukan oat bars.
anaellea2 : Hello, I follow the diet with pleasure, no lapses but I have the same problem about my weight stagnation. I have been stuck to the same weight since a few weeks now and frustrated, I am!! I am not constipated. I follow the diet to the "T". I was losing weight alright but now, stagnating or even taking weight! I even took Devorcal but did not help. I also eat one tbs of Goji Berries every morning. Wheat bran once every 2 days and oat bran every day. What is the problem?? I am eating a lot of roast chicken. Almost one chicken every day during lunch and dinner. Could that be the garlic that I use to roast my chicken?I have to say I mostly eat chicken not too much fish (not really my taste). Is it because I mostly eat fish?I drink around 2.5 to 3l of water every day. ( I do that since years)I am supposed to reach my true weight in 3 weeks but I am stuck on my present weight since 3 weeks now and I still have more than 6 pounds to go! how could you help? WHat can I do? Thanks
Moderatrice sevie : Welcome to our live chat Anaellea2! I think you may be retaining water. This is due to the fact that you are drinking more liquids than the recommended amount (you are meant to have between 1.5-2l of liquids per day). When you do this, the salt intake has to be lowered to the fullest of extent. As I have mentioned before, we will never tell you not to drink if you are thirsty, however, this does have an effect on your weight loss. If at all possible Anaellea2, try and drink up to 2l of liquids (this includes, coffee, tea, water, ect?) and try and eat as less salty as possible; this means to look for something else instead of roast chicken and if you are going to eat fish, avoid salmon for a while (have it maybe once a week for instance) You can also go to your local chemist so that he can provide you with the most appropriate drainer for you. Try this, and you should start seeing a difference quicker than you think.
anaellea2 : It's true that with tea included i can easily drink even 4l a day but how comes that I was losing weight before then? it's only since a few weeks that I started to stagnate. Should I put less salt then in my roast chicken instead of avoiding it? I love my roast chicken and also eating only chicken is not an issue to my weight stagnation? and what is a drainer? I have never heard about it before. Thanks!
Moderatrice sevie : Hi Anaellea2! You may have had your weight loss be slower than what it should have been in the first place and due to the fact that you kept on drinking as much, it was only a matter of time before your weight loss would come to a complete stop. I really love chicken myself, however, you have to eat less of it or avoid it all together because it is causing you to retain water; especially since you are drinking 4l per day. You should not add salt at all to your roast chicken or look for salt that has very little to no sodium in it. A drainer will pretty much help you urinate more frequently and allow you to get rid of some of the extra water your body retains; as your local chemist about it, as I am sure they can explain this much better than I can.
anaellea2 : Sorry to keep coming with questions but do you mean that chicken is not a good food to have because it's causing water retention? in that case which dukan friendly foods would you recommend then in my case? Thank you very much in advance for your answer
Moderatrice sevie : No worries Anaellea, this is what we are here for. I would recommend you have fish, but the ones low in salt such as colin, cod, or bream. I can relate because like you I love chicken and love to add salt to it; but when I was doing the Dukan diet, I slowed down on the salt but added lots of spices which are unlimited to make up for it. You should try this.
slimandsexy : hi do I not add food that iv eaten into a diary? or my exercise?
Moderatrice Sevie : Welcome to our live chat slimandsexy! I'm really sorry but I do not think I have fully understood your question; would you mind rephrasing it for me?
Moderatrice mod : The one hour chat is now over. Had you not gotten to join or to see your answers, they will be posted up on our homepage in a couple of hours. We hope to see you Friday at 9am (UK time)! Have a good day Dukanians!
